FALL SESSION STYLING TIPS
Dressing your family for photos is about capturing moments, not just appearances. Choose outfits that reflect your style and warmth, creating a visual story that feels as authentic as the love you share.
YES! YES! YES!
EARTH TONES
Stick with earth tones and neutrals. You want to stay away from bright colours like neons and lots of dark colours as they don’t photograph as well with my style of editing!
Layering
Incorporate layers like cardigans, vests, or scarves to add texture and depth.
The fall weather is unpredictable, layering can come in handy when needing to add or remove layers depending on weather!
Neutrals with Pops of ColoUr
Using neutrals with pops of colour for family fall photos is a great way to keep the overall look timeless while adding a fun and vibrant touch.
ONE COLOUR WORKS!
Yes, you can absolutely dress the entire family in one colour as long as you play with textures, fabrics, and styles to create depth and visual interest!
TIP: MAMA's - choose your outfit first!
When it comes to family photos, we can sometimes be our own toughest critics. It can feel challenging to pick an outfit we feel great in, especially when we’re trying to coordinate with everyone else.
Start by choosing your outfit first. Pick something that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Once you’ve got your look locked down,
it’ll be so much easier to dress your partner and kids to coordinate with you. This way, you can take the pressure off yourself and enjoy the process. You’ve got this!
TRY AND AVOID:
(The images provided are ideas of what works!)
Overly Bold or Neon Colors
Bright, neon, or overly saturated colors can be distracting and clash with the natural fall tones.
Instead: Stick to earthy, muted, neutral colors. These colors complement the fall scenery very well.
Large Logos or Graphics
Logos, text, and large graphics can make the photos look less cohesive and more casual.
Instead: Opt for simple, clean designs or solid colors that won't draw attention away from the faces and emotions in the photo.
TOO MANY PATTERNS
Too many busy patterns can clash or make the photo feel chaotic.
Instead: Choose one or two family members to wear a pattern (like plaid or light floral) and keep the rest of the outfits in solid or subtle tones to balance things out. Patterns can definitely increase the bigger the family!
Avoid Dressing Everyone in Dark Colors Only
While darker shades are great for fall, dressing the entire family in head-to-toe dark colors can make the photo feel heavy or too serious. Some dark is okay!
Instead: Mix in lighter neutrals like cream, beige, or soft grays to soften the look.
